Newcastle United v Liverpool Match Preview

Live coverage on Prime Video at 8pm, Wednesday 30th December 2020

  • Liverpool are unbeaten in eleven Premier League games
  • The Reds have won their last five against the Magpies across competitions
  • Newcastle United have lost all-but-one of their last four across competitions

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce will be eager to steer his men back to winning ways, however he will have a tough task ahead of him tonight. The Magpies gaffer has been struggling for fresh legs over what has been a very hectic festive schedule and the task tonight will be made even more difficult given that Bruce will be without the services of Ryan Fraser, Jeff Hendrick, Allan Saint-Maximin, Jamal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey.

As for Liverpool, they have been struggling for consistency this season but they have done enough to haul themselves into pole position in the Premier League table. They boast an excellent record against Newcastle United and we envisage one-way traffic at St James’ Park as Bruce adopts a defensive set-up and invites the visitors to break them down.

Liverpool certainly have enough about them to secure all three points on Tyneside tonight and they should see plenty of dynamism in midfield thanks to the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. While it may well be one-way traffic, we’re not expecting a goal-fest of any sort given the the respective set-ups and as such we’ll be siding with an away win and under 3.5 goals.
