Move to Spurs on the cards?
Numerous media outlets are reporting that Watford skipper Troy Deeney is on the verge of signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the coming weeks or months, the leading bookmakers reacting by slashing the odds on such a move as low as 7/2. The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to several Premier League clubs as well as a few Championship ones, however Jose Mourinho’s side have emerged as frontrunners in the race to secure his signature.
Following Watford’s relegation to the Championship at the end of the season, Deeney hinted that he would be seeking pastures new after finishing the campaign as top scorer for the Hornets with 10 goals being scored in 26 matches.
Having been edged to a 3-2 defeat by Arsenal, the Watford captain hinted that this could be his final game for the club having spent a decade at Vicarage Road.
Deeney is just one of many newly-relegated players looking to move elsewhere this summer and with Jose Mourinho in search of a backup striker for Harry Kane at White Hart Lane, the Hornets veteran could prove a suitable low-cost option.
Elsewhere in the market
Tottenham Hotspur aren’t the only side interested in securing Troy Deeney’s signature although they are way out in front in the betting market, second-placed Burnley a 6/1 shot with Crystal Palace not too far behind the Clarets at 8/1. Other Premier League clubs include West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa at 12/1 and 14/1 respectively while Championship outfit Birmingham City are 20/1 to add Deeney to their ranks.
