Update: 05.01.21

Norwich City ended their two-game winless run and further consolidated their position at the top of the Championship with a 1-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday afternoon and the bookmakers reacted by slashing the odds on them finishing the season at the summit of the division. Most firms go a general 13/8 that the Canaries lift the Championship trophy at the end of 2020/21 with some firms going as low as 11/8 on Daniel Farke’s men.

As things stand, Norwich sit four points clear of second-placed Swansea City after 23 games although third-placed AFC Bournemouth and fourth-placed Brentford both enjoy a game-in-hand over the top two. These two sides are joint second-favourites to win the Championship title at odds of 11/4 apiece, the Cherries only winning one of their last three games but the Bees triumphing in each of their last four and extending their unbeaten run to sixteen games with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth last week.

Second-placed Swansea City are next in the Championship Winner betting market at odds of 8/1 while Watford are a 12/1 shot to lift themselves straight back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Update: 31.12.20

The odds on Brentford winning the Championship title have been slashed following their excellent 2-1 win over fellow promotion-hopefuls AFC Bournemouth last night. Having been a bit of a mixed bag earlier in the campaign, the Bees appear to have found their feet and they head into the new year having avoided defeat in the last sixteen competitive outings with nine wins during this time.

It was disappointment for Thomas Frank’s men in the 2019/20 Championship play-off when they lost 2-1 to local rivals Fulham, therefore the Bees boss will be looking to go one better this time around and clinch automatic promotion. As things stand, Brentford sit second in the Championship table on the back of their excellent unbeaten run with just three points separating them from table-topping Norwich City. The West Londoners are now a 5/2 punt for promotion to the top flight as champions, ahead of AFC Bournemouth who have now drifted to 3/1.

Watford are next in the betting at odds of 8/1, the Hornets sitting fifth in the Championship table but enjoying a game-in-hand over most of the sides above them in the division.

Update: 28.12.20

Championship leaders Norwich City suffered only their fourth league defeat of the season when going down 1-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road on Boxing Day, however Daniel Farke’s men remain firm favourites to win promotion to the Premier League and lift the Championship trophy in the process. Most firms go 7/4 that the Canaries finish the season in pole position and make an immediate return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Bournemouth sit second in the Championship Winner betting market, the Cherries enjoying a game-in-hand over the sides above them in the league table. Having missed out on Boxing Day action, the south-coast side sit in third position in the Championship table with just a single point separating them from second-placed Swansea City and five separating them from Norwich City. Bournemouth remain a general 9/4 punt for promotion back to the top-flight as Championship winners.

Swansea City hauled themselves up to second position in the Championship table thanks to a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Boxing Day and the South Wales outfit are 12/1 to clinch the Championship trophy, leaving them fifth-favourites in the market behind Brentford and Watford at 4/1 and 8/1 respectively, the latter two sides having enjoyed wins at the weekend.

Update: 22.12.20

Norwich City have opened up a five-point gap between themselves and second-placed AFC Bournemouth in the battle for the Championship title. The Canaries have been enjoying some excellent form since the start of the campaign, Daniel Farke’s men having won five on the bounce and looking set for a return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Following the Canaries’ weekend 2-0 win over Cardiff City at Carrow Road, the bookmakers have slashed the odds on them being promoted to the top-flight as champions to a general 6/4. This leaves them well ahead of Bournemouth who sit second in the betting market at odds of 9/4.

Bournemouth will be eager to make an immediate return to the Premier League following their relegation at the end of the last campaign and they sit second in the Championship table having won exactly half of their twenty league matches with just two defeats during this time. Nevertheless they have fallen behind in the race for top-spot having only managed a goal-less draw with Luton Town in their last outing.

Brentford have also been enjoying an excellent season thus far and the West London outfit are 5/1 to make the jump to the Premier League for the first time ever. Watford are a 9/1 punt to return to the top-flight at the first time of asking while Swansea City are 14/1.

Update: 17.12.20

Norwich City have opened up a three-point gap between themselves and second-placed AFC Bournemouth in the race for the Championship title. The Canaries have enjoyed some excellent form in these early stages of the campaign with 2-1 wins in each of their last four outings. Indeed Daniel Farke’s men have lost just three of their opening nineteen league matches with twelve wins during this time and the bookmakers have them chalked-in as 2/1 second-favourites for the Championship title this season.

AFC Bournemouth will doubtless be looking to make an immediate return back to the Premier League following their relegation at the end of the 2019/20 season. The Cherries currently sit second in the Championship table and they head into the weekend round of fixtures having won three and drawn one of their last four league games. The south-coast outfit have only lost two of their nineteen league games thus far this season although they have been forced to share the spoils in seven of these. Nevertheless the bookies are of the opinion that they will finish the campaign in pole position in the Championship with most firms going 7/4 that they clinch the title.

Brentford are an 11/2 shot to finish at the top of the Championship table, ahead of Watford and Swansea City at 7/1 and 18/1 respectively.

Update: 11.11.20

With just a single win from their last five Championship outings, Brentford have slid down the league table and now sit in eleventh position with just sixteen points from their eleven league matches. They have been forced to share the spoils with Swansea City (1-1) and Middlesbrough (0-0) in their last two games and they have fallen from joint-favourites in the ‘Championship Title’ betting market.

AFC Bournemouth sit joint-top of this betting market alongside Norwich City at 4/1 apiece, the Cherries something of a mixed bag in recent weeks but nevertheless keeping up with the leaders in the Championship table. The South Coast side have drawn four, won two and lost one of their last seven matches and they desperately need to string together a winning run should they wish to achieve automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

As things stand, Bournemouth sit fourth in the Championship table behind third-placed Norwich City and second-placed Watford, the latter a 5/1 shot for the title. Reading remain in pole position following a solid start to the campaign, the Royals having won seven of their eleven league matches this season but the bookies feel that they won’t last the distance, most firms going 25/1 that the Berkshire outfit finish at the top of the pile.

Update: 03.11.20

Reading may be four points clear at the top of the Championship table but it is Brentford and Bournemouth who are the bookies’ pick for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the campaign. Brentford made it through to the play-off final at the end of 2019/29 but fell at the final hurdle when beaten by local rivals Fulham, while Bournemouth dropped back down to the Championship having spent several seasons in the top-flight, an excellent run considering that nearly all pundits expected their Premier League adventure to last just a single campaign.

As things stand, Bournemouth sit third in the Championship table with seventeen points from their nine league outings while Brentford sit six positions and three points adrift of the Cherries. The Bees may have made an inauspicious start to the season but they have won three of their last five league matches with just a single defeat during this time. They demolished Luton Town 3-0 at Kenilworth Road last time out and this may be a sign of things to come.

The bookmakers make Brentford and AFC Bournemouth joint favourites for promotion to the Premier League as champions at odds of 4/1 while next in the betting market are Norwich City who currently sit level on points with Bournemouth in the Championship table, the Canaries a 9/2 punt for the title.

Next come Watford, the Hornets also dropping down from the Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 campaign and an 8/1 shot to finish in pole position, while second-placed Swansea City complete the top five in the betting market at 12/1. Current leaders Reading are on the periphery at 14/1.

29.10.20

The 2020/21 Championship campaign may be in the very early stages but Reading have managed to open up a sizeable gap between themselves and the rest of the chasing pack at the top of the division. After just eight rounds of fixtures, the Royals sit six points above second-placed AFC Bournemouth in pole position and their goal-difference is a massive twelve, far more than any other side in the second-tier.

Whether Veljko Paunović’s men can remain in their lofty position for much longer remains to be seen, however they have enjoyed some amazing form in the early stages of the campaign with just two points dropped in eight matches and it’s hard to envisage them slowing things down any time soon.

The bookmakers take a somewhat different view with most firms going 10/1 on the Royals winning the Championship title at the end of the campaign. Nevertheless, while we are clearly in the very early stages of the season, Reading have opened up a gap between themselves and the rest of the division and they will be in no mood to surrender this position.

Newly-relegated AFC Bournemouth are the bookmakers’ favourites to haul themselves straight back to the Premier League as champions at odds of just 4/1. The Cherries have avoided defeat thus far in the league, however they have dropped points in exactly half of their Championship matches to date. As such, they really need to start stringing together a winning run and it remains to be seen whether they can close the gap between themselves and table-topping Reading any time soon.

Brentford failed to make it to the Premier League following an agonising play-off final defeat to neighbours Fulham at the end of last season and they are 5/1 to win the title this time around, while newly-relegated Watford are also 5/1 to haul themselves straight back into the top-flight by finishing top of the pile.

The top-five in the Championship Title betting is completed by Norwich City, the East Anglians an 11/2 punt for the Championship title.
