Wolverhampton Wanderers v Middlesbrough Preview & TipsBy glen,
Middlesbrough’s 2016/17 campaign was an unmitigated disaster and it was little surprise when they dropped straight back down to the Championship following their single season in the top-flight. The Teessiders are 9/4 favourites to bounce back into the Premier League at the end of 2017/18 and with Garry Monk now in charge at the Riverside, many believe that they will indeed jump straight back up.
One such person who firmly believes this is former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka, the Spaniard saying: “Boro are the biggest candidate to get promotion – and I say that not only from my heart, but my head.
“The chairman has showed he wants to get promotion straight away because the investment in the first two or three weeks of the summer has been amazing.
“This is the best example to show they want to go back to the Premier League as soon as possible. I think Middlesbrough will finish at the top of the table. They are the best team in the Championship because I know the changing room and the players.”
The capture of Britt Assombalonga for £15 million was certainly an inspired move and Monk has had no shortage of cash to splash during the summer months. Indeed a relatively successful pre-season campaign saw wins over the likes of Chesterfield and Augsburg and whilst we expect a closely-fought affair at Molineux this weekend with both teams getting onto the scoresheet, Middlesbrough certainly possess the edge in terms of quality and we envisage them getting their season off to an excellent start on Saturday afternoon.
