Update: 15.11.23

Manchester City got the better of their arch-rivals Manchester United in the 2022/23 FA Cup Final, Pep Guardiola’s men winning 2-1 underneath the Wembley arch. Indeed, despite City dominating the Premier League and League Cup in recent years, this was only their third FA Cup trophy since 1968/69 but they are firm favourites to make it two on the bounce by hauling aloft the trophy in 2023/24.

Man City haven’t quite been unstoppable this season but they nevertheless sit at the summit of the Premier League table after thirteen rounds of fixtures. They have been dumped out of the EFL Cup on account of a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the third round and were forced to share the spoils in an eight-goal thriller at Chelsea in their latest Premier League outing on Sunday.

Nevertheless, City are still without a doubt the dominant team in English football right now and for that reason they are fancied to go all the way in the FA Cup, the leading bookmakers going a best price of 7/1 that they lift the trophy on Saturday, 25th May 2024.

Next in the betting are Liverpool at a best price of 8/1, Jurgen Klopp’s men having previously won the competition eight times. Their latest triumph was in 2021/22 when they beat Chelsea on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra-time.

Arsenal are a 9/1 best price to lift the FA Cup this term, the Gunners currently riding high in the Premier League table with just a single point separating them from leaders Manchester City. The North London outfit have won more FA Cups (14) than any other side in the history of the competition with their last win taking place in 2020/21 when they beat London rivals Chelsea to the tune of 2-1 in front of an empty Wembley Stadium, on account of the Covid-19 restrictions.

22.06.20

The FA Cup quarter-finals get underway this coming weekend with some mouthwatering action set to come our way and we take a look at the four all-Premier League cup matches this weekend as well as the overall odds for the competition.

Two on the bounce?

Manchester City finished off an excellent 2018/19 by thrashing Watford 6-0 in a thoroughly one-sided FA Cup Final last May and while there is little likelihood that they would enjoy such an easy victory when the 2019/20 final gets underway in a few weeks time (assuming they make it to the final), the bookmakers certainly feel that Pep Guardiola’s men will once again go all the way.

All the leading bookmakers go odds-on that Manchester City will console themselves for not winning the Premier League Title (which will almost certainly go to Liverpool) by triumphing in the FA Cup Final, most firms going a general 8/11 that the trophy ends up at the Etihad Stadium. Nevertheless they still have two games to go before they find themselves in the last two of the competition and this is certainly no time for complacency.

Norwich City v Manchester United

City’s arch-rivals Manchester United are joint second-favourites with many firms to claim FA Cup glory this season and they have enjoyed some morale-boosting results in their last four outings. They thumped Derby County 3-0 in the last round of this competition and followed that with a 2-0 win over Man City in the Premier League before demolishing LASK 5-0 in the Europa League. Upon their return to action on Friday evening, they battled out a 1-1 draw with Spurs at White Hart Lane and we don’t envisage them having any problems disposing of relegation-bound Norwich City in the first FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday afternoon.

Man United to win & both teams to score

Sheffield United v Arsenal

Arsenal’s return from the enforced break was utterly dismal as they were thumped 3-0 by Manchester City and suffered another major blow in their bid to clinch a Europa League berth. This has been a poor season for the Gunners and the only chance that they have of salvaging something for their efforts is in the FA Cup. They will find themselves up against a Sheffield United outfit that are in a stronger position for a European berth and which have generally been solid on home soil this term, therefore we can only see this clash going one way.

Sheffield United to win

Leicester City v Chelsea

The chances of Leicester City clinching a Champions League berth remain strong although they did themselves no favours when conceding an equaliser in the dying seconds at Vicarage Road, after they themselves had scored what looked to be an almost certain winner in the 90th minute on Saturday afternoon. These were the late highlights of what had otherwise been a somewhat uninspiring match and the Foxes will need to pick themselves up from this disappointment when they face Chelsea on Sunday. The Blues boosted their own Champions League chances when outgunning Aston Villa in the West Midlands last time out, however in general the Foxes have been solid on home soil this term and with that in mind, we’ll be siding with the home team to outgun their rivals in what has the makings of an exciting affair.

Back Leicester City to win and both teams to score

Newcastle United v Manchester City

With the Premier League Title effectively out of reach, Manchester City’s only remaining chance of silverware this season is in the FA Cup and they will face tough opposition in the form of Newcastle United this weekend. The Magpies never strayed too far from the relegation zone for the first half of the campaign, however since Christmas they have shown signs of improvement and now sit some distance from the danger zone. They held Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at St James’ Park earlier in the season and while we don’t envisage them dumping the Citizens out of the FA Cup on Sunday, we do envisage the home side giving the visitors a tough time of things, just as they did when thumping Sheffield United 3-0 at this venue last time out.

Back Man City to win and over 3.5 total goals
